Eban Jackson Opens Up About His Most Personal Album Yet
We had the opportunity to sit down with Eban Jackson and get an inside look at the inspiration behind his upcoming album W.I.L.L. (Why I Live Life). Throughout our conversation, it became clear that this project represents a new chapter for the artist, one rooted in self-acceptance, purpose, and authenticity.
Jackson's love for music began early. Growing up, he was a fan of Jay-Z and admired his father, an underground artist whose influence sparked his interest in the craft. While football played a significant role in Jackson’s childhood, he discovered another passion around age 11 when he realized he had a talent for rapping. He wrote his first complete song during his sophomore year of high school and later shot his first music video while attending college. While balancing academics, athletics, and music, he earned a Psychology degree from an HBCU, an experience that still shapes his perspective today.
That background is particularly noticeable in this new project. When asked what story the album tells, Jackson explained that it centers on self-acceptance and becoming comfortable with who you are. The project explores motivation, mindset, and personal development through a lens that feels both introspective and intentional.
Jackson described the album as his most vulnerable body of work to date. His songwriting feels less restricted, allowing him to discuss topics and experiences that he had not explored in previous releases. "I'm always sharpening my sword," he said about his lyricism. Fans will notice several differences from his previous work throughout the album. The production leans more heavily into East Coast influences, departing from the West Coast-inspired sounds heard on his earlier work. There is also a greater emphasis on lyricism, bars, and pure rapping. Jackson views the project as a rebrand of himself, one that fully reflects the type of artist he has always wanted to be.

When asked which song best represents who he is right now, Jackson pointed to "Pen Work." The track reflects his current mindset and offers a direct look at how he approaches life today. Through the song, he shares lessons he has learned, changes he has made, and a perspective that encourages others to take action in their own lives. For listeners deciding where to start when the album is released, Jackson recommends "Dedication." He described it as a motivational record that captures the spirit of the project and serves as an introduction to its message.
The themes woven throughout the album extend beyond music. Jackson is also a personal trainer and the founder of GOE Training, a brand built around helping people become better versions of themselves. Whether through fitness or music, he aims to inspire others to pursue their goals and maximize their potential.
Before wrapping up our conversation, I told Jackson, "Now I'm going to ask you a question that may sound familiar," referencing a question he has posed to guests in his own interviews. I then asked, What makes you great, and how has that experience gotten you to where you are today?
His answer began with his faith. "Jesus is who makes me great," he said. He also pointed to adaptability as one of his greatest strengths. Jackson believes his ability to remain flexible, embrace opportunity, and remain resilient through challenges has played a major role in his success.
After spending time with Eban Jackson, one thing became evident: the message behind this album isn't just something he talks about, it's something he lives. From earning a Psychology degree and competing on the football field to building a fitness brand and pursuing music on his own terms, Jackson has built his career around intentionality and perseverance. His upcoming album captures those experiences through honest storytelling, sharp lyricism, and a message that encourages listeners to embrace who they are while striving for something greater.
