Ivanna Talks Music, Growth, and Her Journey

Ivanna Talks Music, Growth, and Her Journey

At only 21, this singer-songwriter has already explored a range of sounds, from Mariachi to pop, and has worked with some of her dream artists. We met at Savor, a warm, family-owned coffee shop in the Miracle Mile area of Los Angeles, where we talked over a cup of Spanish latte. Ivanna’s presence is immediately felt, her positive energy filled the room as she greeted everyone like family.

Ivanna was born and raised in Texas, where music played a meaningful role in her upbringing. She shared that country, Mariachi, and pop were all early influences that shaped her sound. Early on, a vocal coach told her that her voice wasn’t suited for Mariachi. However, another coach later recognized her potential and helped her develop her abilities. At a young age, she was already performing at events hosted by the Mexican Consulate, an early sign of the path she would continue to pursue.

In addition to singing, Ivanna also acts and writes music. She realized her passion for songwriting around age 15 while working on a film, where she played guitar and sang as part of her role. When producers asked if she had written any original songs, she shared her work, which was ultimately featured in the film. That experience encouraged her to take songwriting more seriously. At 19, she moved to Los Angeles, where songwriting became a form of therapy. Drawing from her life experiences, she began writing about the emotions that came with leaving Texas and starting over in a new city. During that time, she often felt alone and uncertain, emotions that now show up in her lyrics, which explore everything from friendships to relationships.

Her talent eventually led her to a writer’s camp for Chiquis’ album Janney, where she contributed to four songs on the project. When writing for other artists, Ivanna focuses on understanding and reflecting their emotions through her lyrics. She also spoke about the importance of having a strong team in her corner, including a supportive manager, trusted producers, and people she can rely on to help guide important decisions in her career.

When it comes to her own music, she recently released her EP Mis Ventanas, which highlights her acoustic pop sound and personal storytelling. She shared that being vulnerable in her music can be challenging, especially within a culture that does not always openly embrace emotional expression. Still, she continues to write honestly, using her music as a space for reflection, healing, and connection. When asked about her future plans, Ivanna shared that she hopes to continue focusing on her own music, growing as both a singer and songwriter while remaining present as she evolves in her career.

As she continues to find her voice and expand her artistry, Ivanna is not only creating music, but also carving out space for authenticity, emotion, and representation in every note she sings.
