Thee Sacred Souls Bring Romance and Rhythm to the Greek Theatre

Thee Sacred Souls opened the Greek Theatre’s concert season with two back-to-back sold-out nights as part of KCRW’s Presents series. After a week of gloomy weather, the night felt like a reset, with clear skies, good energy, and a crowd ready for some soul.

They opened with “Love Comes Easy,” and from that point on, everyone was locked in. One of my favorite moments was “Let Me Feel Your Charm,” where backing vocalist Vianne Escobar’s harmonies added a soulfulness that felt straight out of the ’50s. Her voice stood out and gave me chills as she carried the chorus.

The energy really took off during “Runnin’ Away.” Josh Lane ran straight into the crowd and made his way through the aisles before sitting with a section of the audience and continuing the song from there. The whole place went wild. It felt less like watching a performance and more like being part of it.

The emotion peaked soon after with “Weak for Your Love,” a song rooted in unrequited longing. It’s a feeling most people recognize, that moment of falling hard for someone who doesn’t meet you in the same place. As the song unfolded, I felt it catch up to me. My eyes watered, holding both the ache of that kind of loss and a quiet gratitude for having experienced a love that deep at all.

They closed the night with an encore of “Can I Call You Rose,” which felt like the perfect way to end it. By then, the crowd was fully in it, singing, swaying, and holding onto the last moments. It was that mix of high energy, intimacy, and reflection that made the night memorable, even on the walk out of the venue.
