Anna Dellaria Live in West Hollywood

Anna Dellaria Live in West Hollywood

I love me a live concert, but what I love more is photographing an amazing artist during their set. Sure, listening to an amazing voice and basking in it’s effervescence is awesome and all, but sometimes that doesn’t cut it when trying to capture the artist’s passion within a frame. Photographing concerts, or live music in general, is relatively new to me. Long time watcher, first time music photographer if you will. Luckily for me, Anna Dellaria made it incredibly easy to materialize her ambitions.

Starting with my favorite shot from her set. The switch from center stage pop singing to a soulful, yet power performance on keys caught me off guard. Due to the tonal shift and repositioning to the back, she felt more vulnerable and reserved. I chose to shoot at an angle that made it feel like we were peering into an intimate performance we weren’t initially supposed to see.

One shot I wanted to make sure to get was with her audience. I noticed how enthusiastic she was with her crowd and I wanted to capture that feeling. She had everyone sing and practice part of the chorus of her song. I was lucky enough to get this one in focus because she got me singing while my eyes were glued to my viewfinder. To fill the frame, I waited until she was perfectly in the reflection of the mirror to showcase both sides of Anna.

The last shot I wanted to talk about actually caught me by surprise. I knew she had a duet with Revel Day on her track “Grow Old Together” and it’s honestly one of my favorite songs of hers, but I hadn’t seen him in the venue when I was shooting. Despite Anna having such a commanding presence, she shared the stage so gracefully with Revel, harmonizing so beautifully that I’d hope to capture with this shot.

Anna Dellaria set a pretty big standard for what I expect to capture at a concert. Not only that, WFNM (We Found New Music by Grant Owens) generally allows around 30-45 minutes per artist for their set time and Anna gave me a hard time picking my favorite photos with how much she packed into her performance.
